What is BC Protege+ and how does it protect your CPF?

Understand everything you need about BC Protege+

Updated today

BC Protege+ is a free service from Brazil’s Central Bank that prevents accounts from being opened in your name without your authorization.

When enabled, no bank or financial institution can open an account using your CPF.

How it works

  • You enable the protection on the Central Bank’s website

  • Before opening an account, institutions must check this system

  • If the protection is active, the account cannot be opened

How this may affect your ARQ account

  • If you are creating your ARQ account and your CPF has Protege+ enabled, you will need to disable it on the Central Bank’s website, wait 1 to 5 minutes, and continue the signup process. After creating your account and registering your Pix keys, you can enable Protege+ again normally.

What BC Protege+ blocks

  • Opening of checking, savings, and payment accounts

  • Adding your CPF as an account holder or responsible party

Important to know

  • It does not affect your existing accounts

  • It does not block salary or benefit accounts

  • You can enable or disable it at any time

  • To open a new account, you must disable the protection first

How to enable

  1. Go to the Central Bank website (Meu BC)

  2. Log in with your gov.br account (silver or gold level)

  3. Enable BC Protege+

Done. Your CPF is now protected against unauthorized account openings.
