A portfolio transfer lets you move your US stocks and ETFs from another broker directly into your ARQ account — no need to sell and repurchase. Your positions transfer as-is through the DTCC (the US central securities depository).
Key things to know before starting
The account must be yours — transfers are only supported between accounts with the same owner. Your name and tax ID must match exactly at both brokers.
Only whole shares of US stocks and ETFs transfer. Options, mutual funds, and fractional shares can't be transferred.
Transfers take 5–7 business days and can't be cancelled once submitted.
ARQ doesn't charge a fee — check with your broker whether they charge one on their end.
What are the eligible brokers?
You can transfer from any US broker that supports ACATS transfers, such as Interactive Brokers, Schwab, Fidelity, and Robinhood. The account must be yours — transfers are only supported between accounts with the same owner. Your name and tax ID must match exactly between your broker and your ARQ account.
What assets can I transfer?
Whole shares of US stocks and ETFs listed on major exchanges. Options, mutual funds, fractional shares, and assets held in joint accounts can't be transferred. If your account holds ineligible assets, you can sell them at your broker and transfer the cash, or place a partial transfer with only your eligible assets.
Full transfer or partial — what's the difference?
A full transfer moves everything in your account. A partial transfer lets you choose which assets to bring over.
If you want your original purchase price (cost basis) tracked for P&L calculation in ARQ, you'll need to place a partial transfer — cost basis tracking isn't available for full transfers.
What are the requirements for the account statement?
The statement must show your account holder name and account number, and be no older than 2 months. It doesn't need to list every asset in your account — a statement from before you bought the assets you want to transfer is fine.
Why was my transfer rejected?
The most common reasons are:
Account number didn't match: The account number provided in the request didn't match what the broker had on record.
Account holder name didn't match: The name on record in your broker must be identical to the one in your ARQ account, including middle names and suffixes.
Tax ID didn't match: The tax ID at your broker must match the one on your ARQ account. If you've created the accounts under different IDs, you need to request either of the brokers to update their records.
Assets not eligible: Options, mutual funds, fractional shares, and joint account holdings can't be transferred. The transfer can fail if any of the assets weren't transferrable.
No assets found: The account may be empty or the assets you selected aren't available. The transfer can fail if any of the assets were not found.
